Starting straight from Class 12

The 5 year LLB suits someone who's finished Class 12 and already knows law is the path. It combines undergraduate study with legal education in one continuous program, so there's no separate degree first and no gap year spent deciding. Students on this track also tend to complete more internships, since they have more years inside the system to build that exposure early. Worth knowing: choosing this path means committing to law at eighteen, which simply means less time spent exploring other fields before committing.

Starting after a completed degree

The 3 year LLB suits someone who's already completed a bachelor's degree, in commerce, engineering, science, or elsewhere, and has since decided to pursue law. That earlier degree becomes real leverage, a commerce background often gives a genuine edge in tax or corporate law, while an engineering background does the same for IP or technology law. Worth knowing: the course moves faster, so internships and legal subjects are packed into a shorter window, which rewards students who already have strong time management habits.

Once you're practising, none of this matters. Litigation, corporate law, and judiciary exams are equally open to graduates from either path, and if you're still weighing where litigation itself might lead, that's worth exploring on its own terms too.
